Anab participated in our youth employment program SummerWorks for several years providing community outreach and organizing in her own neighborhood. Originally from Somalia, Anab moved to the United States when she was 7 years old. As part of Multnomah County's STRYVE (Striving to Reduce Youth Violence Everywhere) program, Anab’s internship focused on promoting healthy activities and building community among the neighborhood’s diverse immigrant residents. Upon completing SummerWorks 2016, Anab enrolled in a local career prep program and registered for classes at Portland Community College to begin pursuing her dream of becoming a midwife. She also landed an internship at Providence Health & Services over the winter. The skills she gained through SummerWorks also gave her the confidence to apply for a job at New Seasons Market, where she has quickly become a favorite team member.
