SummerWorks Program Underway

July 27th, 2015

This summer, over 750 area youth are engaging in a paid work experience - a first for many of them.

Worksystems' SummerWorks program provides work readiness training and funding for disadvantaged youth to participate in a 6-9 week paid work experience. The City of Portland, Multnomah County, and Washington County provide significant funding and work sites to support the program. In addition, over 60 public and private sector sponsors are contributing this year - doubling last year's number! Thank you to all of our sponsors who make this valuable program possible.

Unfortunately, the need still far exceeds available funds as we received over 2,000 applications.

A summer job provides more than just a paycheck. It gives youth an opportunity to acquire critical workplace skills that can often only be learned on the job. Youth have an opportunity to explore various careers and get inspired to pursue post secondary education. Program participants can earn elective credit and have access to financial literacy classes and motivational speakers. Networking and resource fairs are also provided to help them along their career path. Learn more about the SummerWorks program!
